Mallorca cemetery: abandoned cars spark clean-up call

Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

On Mallorca, rubbish, rubble and abandoned vehicles are piling up on a plot beside the municipal cemetery in Maria de la Salut, local Socialists say. On 1 October 2026, they call for an urgent clean-up and submit a proposal to the town council.

Toni Moreno, who leads the local Socialist group, says the state of the plot is unacceptable out of respect for those buried at the cemetery and their families. The group says the problem extends beyond the cemetery. In several streets in Arraval, it points to dirt, unchecked vegetation and poor road surfaces. It wants those streets cleaned immediately and municipal staff to assess whether pavements could make them safer and more accessible for people walking there each day.

The proposal also names the council-owned Escola de Nins and the ‘Búnker’ site on Àngel Madrigal street, where weeds have spread across entrances. Moreno wants the council to remove the vehicles and waste beside the cemetery and send its maintenance team to work on the affected streets and buildings without delay.
