Mallorca ensaimada show: seven bakeries, eight varieties

Seven bakeries and pastry shops brought eight Mallorca ensaimada varieties to Palma’s La Misericòrdia cultural centre on Friday, 11 September. The island’s first Ensaimada Show drew a large turnout, according to Mallorca Island Council. The food event formed part of the Diada de Mallorca programme.

Visitors could try traditional ensaimadas, the island pastry, alongside varieties with figs, pistachio, apple or sobrassada. Llorenç Galmés, president of Mallorca Island Council, and Pilar Amate, councillor for Economic Promotion and Local Development, presented the awards.

Forn Gelabert of Llubí received the Tradition award, recognising its career in baking and pastry-making and its commitment, ethics and quality. Forn de la Glòria won the Career and Consistency award after establishing itself as a historic reference business.

Rubén García was named Mallorca Ensaimada Ambassador for 2026. The council praised his closeness to people, charisma and his ability to convey Mallorca’s character with humour and intelligence.
