Es Bosch purchase in Escorca completed by Balearic Government

The Balearic Islands Government completed the notarised purchase of a 67.24 per cent stake in the Es Bosch, Es Bosch de Baix and Es Bosch de Dalt estates in Escorca, Mallorca, on Wednesday 19 August. The €1.1 million acquisition, approved by the Government Council on 31 July, brings the land into public ownership.

The estates lie near the Torrent de Pareis Natural Monument, an area recognised for its natural and landscape value. The Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Natural Environment said their location gives the purchase particular environmental importance.

Susana Pérez, Director General for the Treasury, Financial Policy and Heritage, signed the sale contract in the presence of the regional minister Joan Simonet. The full cost was met through the Sustainable Tourism Tax.

The government said the acquisition forms part of its policy of adding land to the public estate, conserving territory, protecting biodiversity and enabling responsible public access compatible with natural areas.

Other purchases during the current term include Son Jaumell, Cala Torta, Cala Mitjana and Cala Estreta in the Llevant Peninsula Natural Park, covering 583.9 hectares in total. It has also bought the roughly 72-hectare sa Bastida estate in Alaró for €1.5 million from the Sustainable Tourism Tax, and two estates at sa Boval Vella in Menorca, covering 3.8 hectares within the s'Albufera des Grau Natural Park.
