Mallorca hire car break-in: police arrest 36-year-old

A hire car was forced open at the Torre des Verger lookout in Banyalbufar, Mallorca, on 21 September, police say. Cash, cards, chargers, clothes, shoes and personal documents were taken. The Guardia Civil have arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of the break-in.

The car owner had spotted a man behaving suspiciously beside the vehicle in the lookout car park. When he realised she had seen him, he quickly left in another car driven by a second man.

After travelling to Valldemossa, the victims found that the frame around the passenger door had been levered open to gain entry. Among the missing items were a rucksack and €70 in cash.

The Guardia Civil station in Esporles opened an investigation after a report was filed. Officers identified the suspected thief through a photographic identification procedure, then found and arrested him last Tuesday.
