Palma, Mallorca: the city plans to honour its historic restaurants in 2027 and offer mental health support to self-employed people and entrepreneurs. Councillor Lupe Ferrer outlined both projects on Thursday, 5 November, as she presented a budget of just under €7.5 million for her area.

Historic restaurants and local shops

A new project called Icónicos de la Restauración will recognise long-standing and distinctive restaurants that the council says are part of Palma’s food identity and the memory of its neighbourhoods. The draft budget sets aside less than €227,000 for restaurant-related projects and events, including support for TaPalma, the Fira de la Sardina and Cuines del Món.

The plans also keep €150,000 in grants for emblematic shops. Funding to help shops modernise rises by 40% to €280,000, while the Christmas campaign is set to extend to areas including Son Ferriol and the square at Son Serralta.

Mental health support for the self-employed

The new Psicoemprende programme will focus on the emotional wellbeing and mental health of self-employed people and entrepreneurs. The city also plans to continue its advice office and specialised training for them. Ferrer’s department for the self-employed has a proposed budget of less than €596,000 for 2027.

Across Ferrer’s wider budget, nearly €5.2 million is earmarked for training and employment work through the local development agency PalmaActiva.
