Mallorca: IB3 changes Es Trenc protest report

IB3 changed its television report on the human chain at Es Trenc, Mallorca, held in July to defend the Natural Park. Director general Josep Codony confirmed the decision in Parliament on 24 September, saying the original text treated the protest in a partisan way.

MÉS per Mallorca MP Marta Carrió called the intervention a serious attack and interference. Codony said the reporter sent to cover the action had previously been the party's press chief.

According to Codony, the first version interviewed only one side. An editor and the head of news then altered it to include both sides, he said, arguing that this was their normal role in overseeing reports.

IB3 ultimately broadcast the organisers' version and the police version, including protester counts that differed sharply. Codony said the channel's coverage may please some people more than others, but insisted it showed the information as it was.

The protest also brought a clash involving Campos mayor Francisca Porquer. Demonstrators rejected her when she tried to join the human chain, and Codony said IB3 aired both her comments and the moment she was met with reproaches.
