Ibiza police checkpoint escape: Brit faces two years
A 38-year-old British man faces up to two years in jail after allegedly fleeing an alcohol and drugs checkpoint on Ibiza’s Ei-600 near Sant Antoni de Portmany at about 06.30 on 4 September. The Guardia Civil later arrested him at a hotel in Santa Eulària. Officers say he ignored their signal to stop in a high-end sports car and sped away, seriously endangering them.
The Guardia Civil said investigators later found social media footage allegedly showing the suspect making “extremely dangerous” manoeuvres shortly after leaving the checkpoint. They say other road users were continuously put at risk on the route to Santa Eulària.
He was arrested on suspicion of an offence against road safety. The alleged reckless driving could also see him barred from driving motor vehicles for between one and six years.
