Italy air traffic strike cancels six Madrid flights
Six flights between Madrid, Spain, and Italy are cancelled on Wednesday, 30 September, as an air traffic control strike hits services. Air Europa has cancelled four flights between Madrid and Rome, Italy, and Milan, Italy, while Iberia has dropped a Madrid–Milan return flight. The four-hour stoppage was called by the Uiltrasporti union and also involves the subsidiary Techno Sky.
What passengers can change
Air Europa is offering affected passengers a free change of travel date within seven days after their scheduled flight. They can also change route, including to or from Venice, Italy; Munich, Germany; Zurich, Switzerland; or Geneva, Switzerland.
Iberia cancelled its return flight as a precaution the day before. It says its other services are running “without difficulty” and reports 98.1% punctuality, with no further disruption from the stoppage in Italy.
More flights cut in Italy
ITA Airways has cancelled around 29% of its flights scheduled for Wednesday. It advises passengers to check their flight status and offers a booking change without penalty or a refund if a flight is cancelled or its timetable changes.
The nationwide stoppage runs from 13.00 to 17.00. Local action is also taking place at Milan-Linate, Naples, Bologna and Bari airports. Under Italy’s air transport strike rules, flights are protected between 07.00 and 10.00 and between 18.00 and 21.00.
