Mallorca’s Lluc choir school wins Stella Award
Mallorca’s Escolanía de Lluc choir school has won a Stella Award for its music and cultural work. The award, confirmed on 2 October, places the school among the winners of the prizes’ first year. The General Council of the Church in Education chose it in the Communication and Cultural Projects category.
The school in Lluc teaches primary and compulsory secondary pupils alongside specialist music training. Its singers, known as the “blauets”, form the permanent choir at the Sanctuary of Lluc. According to the Diocese of Mallorca, they have sung there daily for centuries in honour of the island’s patron, the Mare de Déu de Lluc. The school came under diocesan ownership in 2019.
The diocese says the award recognises the school’s educational, musical and cultural work, as well as its pupils, families, teachers and staff. Representatives of the school and sanctuary will attend the prize ceremony on 28 October in the main hall of the Pontifical University of Salamanca.
