Mallorca’s Escolania de Lluc wins a Stella award in Salamanca, Spain, at a ceremony changed by a train accident in Toledo. Its singers, known as the Blauets de Lluc, perform at the event. The choir and the Diocese of Mallorca announced the award on Thursday, 29 October 2026.

The programme includes a church service and a minute’s silence for the victims of the accident. A representative of the diocese attends the ceremony, where the Blauets sing pieces including ‘Nigra Sum’, ‘Ave Regina Coelorum’ and ‘Magnificat’.

The award recognises the choir’s work in communication and cultural projects. This is the first year of the Stella awards, given by the General Council of the Church in Education to people and groups that contribute to the Church’s educational work.

For the Escolania, that means its long record of teaching children and young people, making music and preserving music and worship traditions. The permanent choir of the Lluc sanctuary says the award will help sustain it and pass the Blauets’ legacy to future generations.
