Palma drink-drive crash: five hurt, driver jailed
Five people were taken to hospital after a lorry hit seven vehicles on the Ma-13 in Palma, Mallorca, on Thursday morning. The 63-year-old driver has been jailed after police found clear signs that he was under the influence of alcohol. The crash happened before the Son Fuster exit, heading towards Palma.
The driver lost control of the lorry before it struck the vehicles, according to the Guardia Civil traffic division. He tested positive in a breath alcohol test.
SAMU 061 took five injured people to Son Espases, Son Llàtzer and Juaneda hospitals. Two were less seriously injured and three had minor injuries. Another 12 people received medical care at the scene and were discharged there.
The driver appeared before a Palma court on Friday morning, accused of an offence against road safety and serious disobedience. The Guardia Civil traffic division is continuing to investigate the circumstances of the multiple-vehicle crash.
