Mallorca traffic app gets €1.7m

A €1.7 million Mallorca traffic app plan aims to show live traffic and available parking spaces through a mobile app and 5G-linked information panels. On 15 September, state digital agency Red.es published its decision to finance the Consell de Mallorca proposal through its RedCyTI programme. The scheme is expected to mobilise more than €1.7 million in the Balearic Islands.

The project is intended to make access easier to parts of Mallorca with the greatest tourist, commercial and hospitality activity. It combines the app with information signs connected by 5G technology.

RedCyTI is a programme supporting smart cities and territories to drive economic and productive development. Across Spain, the call is set to mobilise €126 million, including contributions from local bodies and single-province autonomous communities.

Red.es will provide more than €94 million from its own funds and the European Regional Development Fund. Depending on the autonomous community, its contribution can cover between 40% and 85% of each selected initiative. Red.es will put the selected projects out to tender and carry them out.
