Mallorca driving tests: Parliament backs Manacor centre
Learner drivers in Manacor, Mallorca, could sit regular theory driving tests closer to home under a plan backed by the Balearic Parliament on 23 September. The Parliament’s Institutional and General Affairs Committee unanimously approved the PP proposal to make the town an external test centre for Spain’s Dirección General de Tráfico. It calls for examiners to travel to Manacor for one morning each week or every two weeks, depending on demand.
The first tests would cover driving knowledge. Spain’s central government is being asked to put the necessary arrangements in place.
Road tests could follow
The proposal sets out a route towards practical tests as well. Manacor could host tests on a closed circuit and driving exams on public roads once it meets the required technical, material, safety and organisational standards.
The Parliament also wants the Dirección General de Tráfico to assess Manacor’s urban and inter-urban road network for practical exams. It has called for coordination with Manacor Town Hall to secure suitable premises and ensure the tests run properly.
