Mallorca: police stop two modified delivery e-bikes

Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

In Palma, Mallorca, police take two modified delivery e-bikes off the road on Thursday after finding they could exceed 25 kilometres per hour. Palma Local Police stop the riders on Sant Miquel street during a check between 09.30 and 13.00. Neither rider has the licence required for the altered bikes, and police open judicial proceedings against both over suspected road safety offences.

The modifications mean the vehicles no longer count as ordinary electric bikes, police say. The check follows the entry into force of a reform of the General Traffic Regulations.

Officers also report nine delivery riders for missing required safety gear, such as a helmet or reflective vest. They refer the cases of three workers without residence permits or legal employment contracts to Social Security and the National Police.
