Palma taxi crash: rider has no licence, blows 0.89 mg/l
Palma, Mallorca: A 23-year-old motorcyclist hits a taxi waiting at a red light on 25 October at about 03.00 and is injured. Police say he has never held a driving licence. The crash happens on Avenida de Gabriel Roca, also known as the Paseo Marítimo, near the junction with Calle Monsenyor Palmer.
Palma’s local police say the rider fails to notice the taxi on the straight stretch of road and does not brake before striking its rear. The impact throws him forward. His head breaks the taxi’s rear window, and he falls onto the road. He suffers facial injuries because the chin guard of his helmet is open. An ambulance takes him to Son Espases University Hospital.
Officers say the rider shows clear signs of drinking. A breath test records 0.89 mg/l of breath — more than three times the administrative limit and above the threshold for a criminal offence.
Police are investigating two possible driving offences: riding over the alcohol limit and riding without ever having obtained a licence. They also report him for failing to pay attention and for riding a motorcycle without compulsory liability insurance. The motorcycle is taken off the road, and the case is sent to the duty investigating court.
