Museo de Muro renovation urged by Mallorca Council
The Consell de Mallorca has called on Spain’s Ministry of Culture to carry out the stalled renovation of the Museo de Muro in Muro, Mallorca, on 20 August 2026. The museum is part of the Museo de Mallorca and is owned by the ministry.
The island authority bought the adjoining house in May 2024 so that the collection could be moved out during the building works. The two-storey property measures about 300 square metres. Work had been expected to begin in the months after the purchase and to take two years, but the ministry has yet to launch the project, according to the Consell.
Antònia Roca, the Consell’s vice-president and councillor for Culture and Heritage, said the authority had completed its role and remained ready to assist, while responsibility for the works rested with the ministry. The museum’s collection includes farm tools, kitchenware and furniture reflecting Mallorca’s rural heritage. The planned overhaul would add a publicly accessible store and a multi-purpose space to its ethnological section.
