Mallorca night walk brings 5,000 walkers to Lluc
More than 5,000 people from 45 municipalities in Mallorca’s Part Forana arrive at the Lluc sanctuary in Mallorca on Sunday morning, 13 September, after walking through the night. The 45th Pujada a Lluc a Peu, a night walk to the sanctuary, passes without incident, according to the Consell de Mallorca. People take part for faith, tradition, personal challenge or to share the experience with others.
A night route to Lluc
The Consell de Mallorca is running the walk for the second year. It took over from the Blauets de Lluc, who said they could no longer carry on organising it because they lacked the resources.
Council president Llorenç Galmés sets off with the march in Inca. He calls the walk one of Mallorca’s most important expressions of identity and tradition, saying it keeps the island’s sense of belonging alive across generations.
Hot chocolate and offerings at the sanctuary
At Lluc, the walkers are welcomed with hot chocolate before a gathering of gegants and the official and religious reception. The Association of Former Blauets then welcomes them before towns make offerings of bouquets and products of the land.
Mallorca bishop Sebastià Taltavull leads a Eucharist with the Choir of Former Blauets. Govern president Marga Prohens also attends the events at the sanctuary and praises the continuation of what she calls a gathering of fellowship, saying the path is better travelled together.
