400 objections: Mallorca train plan awaits answers

More than 400 objections to the planned train link from Sa Pobla to Alcúdia still have no public overall response, more than a year after the consultation period ended. On 16 September, MÉS per Sa Pobla said it would take a motion to the next Sa Pobla council meeting demanding greater transparency from the Balearic government. The party says the town hall lacks information needed to understand the technical criteria shaping the project.

MÉS says changes have been announced and some original route options reconsidered in recent months, yet key details have not reached the council. It also says the Ministry of Housing, Territory and Mobility has refused access to technical and sector reports produced during the process.

Spokesman Antoni Simó said the government must explain what it has decided, the criteria behind those decisions and the timetable from here. The motion calls for the reports to be released, responses to the objections to be made public and any project changes to be set out.

MÉS backs taking the railway to Alcúdia, but says it wants to press for improvements. Sa Pobla council approved a related motion on 7 August 2025, while the party prepared more than 70 objections and proposed changes.

One proposal was a lowered section of line at Sa Pobla’s bypass using a so-called false tunnel. MÉS says this could reduce the impact on the Marjal, farming and the town’s appearance, while stopping the railway from becoming a barrier through the municipality.

The option was initially rejected before the regional government later agreed to examine it technically, according to MÉS. Simó said that made it even more important to reveal which other proposals had been accepted, which remained under study and which had been rejected, and why.
