Palma airport protest targets growth on 20 September
A protest against greater capacity at Palma de Mallorca Airport will begin at 18.00 on 20 September outside the Government Delegation in the Balearic Islands. The Platform Against the Expansion of Palma Airport is calling for an end to funding for tourism promotion and new air routes.
Social, environmental and neighbourhood groups are due to join the march in Palma on Mallorca. The platform says the demonstration is “more necessary than ever” and opposes any project by airport operator Aena or the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility that could increase capacity at Son Sant Joan.
The organisers will give further details of the march at a press conference on Saturday. They also back a law on shared airport management that would allow the Balearic Government to regulate “capacity of load” and begin “a reduction”.
