Palma bus cash fare nears rise from €2 to €3
In Palma, Mallorca, a single bus journey paid for in cash could cost €3 instead of €2 next year. The city council’s Urban Planning and Environment Committee backed the new fare with votes from the PP and Vox, Palma City Council said on 23 October. The full council is due to vote on it next Thursday.
The €3 fare would apply to occasional passengers who board without a ticket and pay the driver in cash. It would not be the fare paid by people using the Tarjeta Intermodal or the new Tarjeta Única. The council says the change would complete the integration of fares and technology between Palma’s Municipal Transport Company (EMT) and the Mallorca Transport Consortium. Its practical effect will also depend on whether the Spanish and Balearic governments keep subsidies that make public transport free.
MÉS per Palma has criticised the proposed rise, claiming it would give Palma Spain’s most expensive single ticket. The party points to fares of €1.4 in Seville, €1.5 in Madrid and Málaga, and €2.9 in Barcelona.
