Palma crash: driver fails alcohol test

A car driver struck a woman in a light quadricycle in Palma on 6 September, leaving her with an injury to her left knee. The collision happened at 08.35 at the junction of Sant Leandre and Regalo streets. Palma Local Police said the car driver later tested positive for alcohol.

Police say the car entered the junction without giving way, despite the road markings and signs. The quadricycle was travelling on the main road and had priority. Its driver told officers she had been heading to work.

The impact sent the car towards the edge of the road, where it became wedged between a parked car and a van. Both parked vehicles suffered serious damage.

Paramedics treated the quadricycle driver at the scene before taking her to a private clinic. The car driver, who had two passengers with her, told officers she had braked and checked the junction. The passengers were unhurt.

A police accident unit examined the vehicle paths and held the car driver responsible. Her alcohol test recorded 0.32 mg. Police issued administrative reports for failing to give way at a signed junction and driving above the permitted alcohol limit.
