Mallorca parking: 18 live signs and app to ease jams
Mallorca plans 18 roadside signs and a mobile app to show where public parking is available in real time. The signs will cover coastal areas and main approaches to the Serra de Tramuntana, with the aim of cutting parking searches and road jams. The Mallorca Island Council announced the plan on 31 October 2026.
The electronic signs, known as variable-message panels, and the app will cost €1.7 million. The European Union and Spain’s Ministry for Digital Transformation and the Civil Service have awarded €1 million towards the project. The council will cover the rest.
Why the signs matter
Summer traffic from tourists and residents can clog the Ma-10 through the Serra de Tramuntana, the council says. On some occasions, the congestion has forced the Sóller tunnel to close.
In 2025, the council tested mobile signs at car parks across the mountain range to help manage visitor traffic. The new signs and app are intended to help people spend less time looking for a space, especially in areas with heavy traffic.
More parking is planned
The project will sit alongside a separate council plan for car parks near public transport stops. That plan provides for 7,171 spaces across 43 car parks: 16 existing municipal sites will be renovated and 27 new ones created. The council has approved €30.9 million for it.
