Menorca car limit: lobster stew bet on summer 2027
In Palma, Mallorca, a lobster stew is riding on Menorca’s car limit: Josep Castells bets that restrictions on vehicles entering the island will not be in force in summer 2027. On Wednesday, 21 October 2026, the Més per Menorca spokesman offered to buy Balearic government president Marga Prohens and a companion a caldereta de langosta — a lobster stew — if the limit is in force. He made the offer during a debate in the Balearic parliament.
Castells called the government’s measures against tourist overcrowding “pure theatre” and pointed to the proposed vehicle limit. He also accused Prohens of largely leaving Menorca out of her speech.
The argument went beyond traffic. Castells disputed Prohens’s housing figures, saying she spoke of thousands of public homes when only 90 were under construction. He argued that her announced tax cuts would mainly help people who could already afford a home. The stew bet rests on what happens next: whether Menorca’s vehicle limit is in force in summer 2027.
