The craft is known locally as pedra en sec. It has been on UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage list since 2018. On Mallorca, it has been used to build terraces, walls and paths. The Serra de Tramuntana alone is estimated to have more than 19,000 kilometres of terrace walls.

A botanical walk on 10 October will follow part of the Dry Stone Route around Mirador de ses Barques. Magdalena Vicens Fornés from the Sóller Botanical Garden will explain the plants growing on the walls. An introductory course in building terrace walls also ended on Saturday. Twelve people took part this year, and the school behind it, Escola de Margers, marks its 20th year.
