Mallorca rubbish charges: Sa Pobla’s €2 fee after 20 bags

On Mallorca, the town of Sa Pobla starts charging individuals €2 for each extra bag of general rubbish they take to its municipal drop-off point after using a green card for 20 bags in a year. The change begins on 1 November. Businesses and self-employed people have the same 20-bag allowance but pay €10 for each bag beyond it.

Sa Pobla Town Council approved the waste rules unanimously in February and is bringing them in gradually. During October, staff explain how to use the containers and access cards and answer questions about the rules.

Building waste can go to the drop-off point only in special bags supplied by the council. A 10-litre bag costs €1.50, a 25-litre bag €3 and a 50-litre bag €5.
