Sa Pobla investment plan commits €1.8m to roads and sports
Sa Pobla, Mallorca, approved two budget amendments on Tuesday 18 August to release more than €1.8 million for roadworks, sports facilities and education projects. The investment plan will be funded from the town council’s treasury surplus rather than new borrowing.
More than €950,000 has been allocated to renewing road surfaces, including on Sagasta, Ramon y Cajal, Lluna, Major, Lluc and Miquel Verdera streets, as well as at the municipal sports centre car park.
Football, tennis and school projects
The council has set aside €427,000 for a new football pitch and €186,000 to replace the lighting at the grass football field. A full refurbishment of the tennis offices is budgeted at €47,000.
A further €150,000 will be spent on electrical infrastructure for the new school centre. The municipal nursery will receive €30,000 under the climate-shelter project, while €28,000 is planned for restoring and improving the Paseo del Tren.
Funding and fiscal rules
Mayor Biel Ferragut said the programme would not require a new loan or add to municipal debt. The council said it was able to meet the cost from available reserves and had no financial debt.
However, the intervention report warns that using the surplus for the projects could potentially breach fiscal rules. If required under the regulations, the council will draw up an economic and financial plan to return to compliance.
