Mallorca school revamp starts with over €2.1 million
A Mallorca school is getting a full overhaul with a budget of just over 2.1 million euros: work has begun on the old building at CEIP Mestre Guillem Galmés in Sant Llorenç des Cardassar. The Balearic Ministry of Education and Universities said on Monday, 5 October, that the work is due to take 12 months. Funding comes from the insularity factor.
The original building dates from around 1960, and the project also covers later extensions. Workers will strengthen about 370 square metres of the first-floor structure and repair the gallery’s semicircular stone arches.
Insulation added to the outside of the building is intended to improve energy efficiency. The plans also include new toilets, adapted teaching rooms and a new system for climate control and fresh air. A new escape staircase, equipped fire hose points and renewed electrical wiring will add to the safety work.
