Palma: 165 police at 140 school checkpoints

Palma, Mallorca, begins the school year on Thursday with 165 Local Police officers covering 140 checkpoints around the city’s education centres. The operation will run throughout the academic year, managing traffic and access around the schools. New weekday timetables for the city bus network also take effect on Thursday.

Checks at school gates

The Local Police radar unit and patrols from its different divisions can monitor the areas around schools and carry out checks at opening and closing times. Palma City Council says the force will work with the National Police to strengthen security and coordinate their response.

More buses on school routes

Extra peak-time services return on L3 and L7 for school opening and closing times. Outside those periods, both routes will run every 10 minutes. Special journeys also return on L10 and L12, including services to IES Son Pacs, while extra services resume on L14.

L5 and L8 will run every nine minutes, while L10 will run every 13 minutes. L19 has run every 20 minutes since 7 September, and L20, L29, L39 and L40 will also run every 20 minutes.

Together, L39 and L40 will provide a bus every 10 minutes between Palacio de Congresos and Jacint Verdaguer. L12 and L24 will each run every 24 minutes, combining for a 12-minute service between carretera de Valldemossa and Nou Llevant. Timetables also change on A1, A2, 25 and 4, while other routes keep their current frequencies, subject to small changes on some departures.
