Ibiza’s Ses Variades car park to close within three months
Cars are still parked at Ses Variades in Sant Antoni de Portmany, Ibiza, but the car park must close within three months under a final court ruling. The town council announced the closure on 30 October 2026. Ses Variades is the only car park covered by the ruling where vehicles remain.
A dispute over five car parks
The case began with Subsuelos Urbanos, a property firm that once ran the public car park at Plaza de España. It argued that several council car parks were taking customers from its facility. The council rejected its request to close them, and the firm went to court in October 2016.
In 2020, a court in Palma ordered the council to begin closure proceedings for five parking plots, including Ses Variades. In 2022, the court considered its ruling fulfilled because the council had ended its contracts with the plots’ owners.
The closure order becomes final
Subsuelos Urbanos appealed. The Balearic Islands High Court of Justice ruled that the council had to close the car parks within three months. Spain’s Supreme Court declined to hear the council’s appeal in October 2026, making that order final.
The council says it will set the exact date for clearing and permanently closing Ses Variades in the coming days.
