s’Illot sexual abuse: two-year jail term suspended

A man convicted of sexually abusing a woman in s’Illot, Sant Llorenç des Cardassar, will not go to prison after a court suspended his two-year sentence. The Balearic Islands Provincial Court also ordered him to pay 15,000 euros in compensation. The ruling follows an agreement reached on Monday, 14 September.

The man admitted the offence and accepted the sentence, while the agreement meant there was no public trial. Prosecutors had initially sought a prison term four years longer. He had already paid 5,000 euros of the compensation before the hearing.

According to the prosecutor’s case, the abuse took place on the terrace of a building in s’Illot in the early hours of 11 July 2019. The woman verbally objected and physically resisted, the prosecution said.
