The driver had stopped before the cycle crossing to let two cyclists pass. Both crossed correctly, police say. As he pulled away, the boy rode onto the crossing without obeying a stop marking. His bicycle struck the car’s front left corner.

The boy lost control, hit the side of the car and fell onto the road. He suffered bruises to an elbow and his left knee. Medical staff treated him before an ambulance took him to a clinic for assessment.

Officers from the Palma Local Police accident unit concluded that the boy was responsible for the collision because he had not given way at the marked crossing.
