Balearic storm alerts lifted after severe weather

All storm alerts across the Balearic Islands were lifted by the emergency service Emergencias 112 at about 12.40pm on Saturday, 22 August, after rain, thunderstorms and strong wind gusts swept the archipelago. The alerts had ranged from yellow to orange.

The State Meteorological Agency also had no active adverse-weather warnings for any of the four islands. Emergency crews dealt with 109 incidents, most involving trees brought down by the wind.

Wind gusts on Menorca reached 120 kilometres per hour. Authorities also recorded 14 incidents involving fallen urban fixtures; one left a minor injured in Sant Lluís.

Other call-outs included nine cases of obstacles or liquids on roads, six risks from loose or falling items, six boats adrift and two floods affecting buildings or premises. The emergency service also reported traffic accidents, maritime incidents and fires of different types.
