Storm incidents reach 75 across the Balearic Islands
Rain and wind generated 75 storm incidents across Mallorca, in Spain's Balearic Islands, and the neighbouring islands by 6am on Friday, 21 August. The Balearic Emergency Coordination Centre recorded 31 cases on Mallorca, 27 on Menorca, 14 on Eivissa and three on Formentera.
Manacor recorded seven incidents and Felanitx six, while Calvià and Sant Llorenç each reported three. On Menorca, Maó accounted for 13 cases, followed by Alaior with six and Es Castell with four. Sant Josep recorded six incidents on Eivissa and Santa Eulària four.
Fallen trees were the most frequent problem, accounting for 33 call-outs. Emergency teams also handled eight interruptions to basic services, seven cases involving loose urban fixtures, five reports of obstacles or liquids on roads, four risks of falling material and four boats adrift.
Two incidents involved flooding in buildings or businesses. Other reports covered flooding on public roads, traffic collisions, people at risk at sea and several types of fire.
Thirteen incidents remained open early on Friday, including six interruptions to basic services, four fallen trees, two cases involving loose urban fixtures and flooding at one business. Mallorca Firefighters removed fallen trees in Son Ferrer in Calvià, Manacor, Felanitx, S'Illot, Cala Pi in Llucmajor and Camí de Can Patró in Manacor.
