Mallorca: Palma variat fair brings 13 stalls, bar tribute

On Mallorca, 13 stalls offer variat, a local dish, at Pere Garau market in Palma this Sunday: the fair also honours a bar that closed this summer. The second Fira del Variat opened on Saturday afternoon and runs until 23.00 on Sunday, 27 September. Food trucks, live music and children’s activities are also part of the event.

A tribute to Ca'n Biel Felip

The fair has recognised Ca'n Biel Felip for its work promoting variat and local produce. Biel Roca opened the bar in Cas Capiscol in 1994. It stayed open for more than 30 years before closing this summer. Palma mayor Jaime Martínez presented the award.

More space and ways to buy tickets

After the turnout at the first fair, organisers expanded this year’s event across both squares at Pere Garau market. People can buy tickets for food and drink online in advance or from machines at the market, a change intended to make purchases quicker.

Sunday’s programme includes a midday vermouth gathering with a brass band, followed by DJ sets and performances in the afternoon and evening. The Pere Garau market sellers’ association organises the fair with support from Palma City Council and the Council of Mallorca.
