Mallorca water bus: two Palma routes start 1 November
Mallorca’s port of Palma gets two water bus routes on 1 November: cruise passengers will be able to reach the city centre by sea instead of taking the road. Palma Cruises will run lines 2 and 3 under a temporary permit from the Balearic Islands Port Authority. The regular inner-city line, line 1, is due to start on 15 January 2027.
A route around the road traffic
The boats will serve four stops in the port. The service will primarily link the cruise terminals at Dique del Oeste and Moll de Ponent with the landing at the Llotja, close to the city centre. A separate link between Palma and Portitxol is also planned.
The port authority wants to ease traffic on Avenida de Gabriel Roca. It says large cruise ship calls bring many passengers needing transport in a short time.
What the city line will offer
Line 1 will connect Moll de Ponent, the Llotja and Tráfico Local. In high season, it is planned to run from 09.00 to 19.00, staying open until midnight on Fridays, Saturdays and the evenings before public holidays.
A standard single ticket will cost 10 euros, or 18 euros return. Local people will be able to buy a Bono 100 for 50 euros, valid for a year and covering 100 single journeys at 0.50 euros each. A Bono 20 will cost 20 euros and remain valid for six months.
Palma Cruises’ permit lasts one year. It can be renewed annually for up to three years, but will end sooner if a permanent operator takes over. The port authority has approved a new tender for a contract of up to 15 years after a TUI-led group withdrew its bid in August. The new tender will require boats with technology to keep nitrogen oxide emissions low.
