Mallorca plans water links for five towns' supply

Mallorca is planning water links between five municipalities to make drinking water supplies more reliable when shortages or network faults strike. The proposed network covers Sineu, Montuïri, Lloret de Vistalegre, Costitx and Algaida, all in Mallorca’s Pla district. On Tuesday, 20 October 2026, the Mancomunitat Pla de Mallorca invited bids to draw up the plans.

The Mallorca Island Council is funding the project, which has a budget of €320,998.49. The contract covers detailed plans for the first two phases of the network and a later branch running from Lloret de Vistalegre through Pina to Algaida. It is a planning contract, not a contract to build the links.

The plans must set out the pipes and connections, pumping equipment and systems to control and monitor the network remotely. They must also include environmental studies and documents needed before construction can go ahead.

The Mancomunitat says connecting the networks would make it easier to share available water between municipalities. It also aims to tackle problems with water availability and quality and help the system respond to shortages or faults.

The final detailed plan is due by 15 June 2027, with all work under the planning contract to finish by 30 June 2027. Firms and professionals can find the tender documents and submit bids through the Public Sector Procurement Platform.
