Santa Eugènia spends €114,000 on new women’s hub

Santa Eugènia, Mallorca, has bought new premises in Ses Escoles for its local women’s association, securing its activities after its former base was assigned to the expansion of the municipal nursery school. The town council paid €114,000 for the building through the Consell de Mallorca’s 2024-2025 Plan for Works and Services. Consell president Llorenç Galmés and Pilar Amate, councillor for Economic Promotion and Local Development, visited the premises on 24 September.

A new base as nursery places increase

The move addresses two needs in Santa Eugènia, according to the Consell de Mallorca. The municipal nursery school is increasing its public places from 24 to 37, while the Associació de Mestresses de Casa gets a new place to meet and continue its work.

Galmés met the association’s president, Isabel M. Coll, its committee and members, as well as Santa Eugènia mayor Pep Lluís Urraca.

Nearly 100 members from 16 to over 90

Founded in 1988, the association has nearly 100 users aged from 16 to over 90. It runs workshops in macramé, embroidery and pouring painting during the year, with a new neules calades workshop due to begin next week.

Its members also take part in charitable initiatives and activities in Santa Eugènia. Galmés said that investing in villages also meant investing in the people, associations and spaces that shape daily community life.
