Mallorca wrong-way crash on Ma-15: two hurt, one held
Mallorca: two drivers are hurt when a car travelling the wrong way hits a delivery van head-on on the Ma-15 in the early hours of Friday. The 55-year-old car driver was heading towards Palma at kilometre 12.4, near the start of the Costes de Xorrigo, when he hit the van, which was travelling in the correct direction. The Guardia Civil later arrested him.
Drivers raised the alarm
Several drivers spotted the car and called the emergency services. Traffic patrols set out to intercept it, but the crash happened before they could reach it. The Guardia Civil said darkness and the road’s downhill slope increased the risk.
Alcohol test leads to arrest
The car driver was injured, with his prognosis described as guarded. The van driver suffered minor injuries. Ambulances took them to different hospitals.
The 55-year-old’s alcohol test showed a level well above the legal limit. The Guardia Civil arrested him on suspicion of reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol, then referred the case to the judicial authorities.
