Climate in Artà — Hilly Inland Town with a Northeastern Character
Artà sits 123 meters above sea level in the northeast of Mallorca — high enough to develop its own distinct climate, noticeably different from the immediate coast. The town falls within the sphere of influence of the northeastern coastline, which receives more rainfall than the island's interior or its southern shore. As a reference, aggregated climate data for Capdepera (~10 km away) show around 586 mm of annual rainfall, compared with 449 mm in Palma according to AEMET — a gap that is most pronounced in autumn and winter.
November is the wettest month, with roughly 104 mm. Positioned between the Llevant hills and the open plain to the northeast, the area is wide open to Mediterranean low-pressure systems that roll in off the sea each autumn. October and December rank as the second and third wettest months respectively.
Summer in Artà is warm and dry. In July, T3-Aggregator climate data show only around 8 mm of rainfall, with daytime highs of roughly 29°C. Because Artà sits away from the water, the town center misses the cooling effect of the embat — the afternoon sea breeze that freshens places like Cala Ratjada or Capdepera arrives here much weakened. Anyone looking to cool off will find relief at the nearby beaches of the northeastern coast, about 10 kilometers away.
Winters are mild: the average daily temperature in January is around 11°C according to T3-Aggregator climate data. Frost is rare. The elevated setting and green surroundings make Artà an excellent base for hiking in the surrounding hills, particularly in spring and autumn.
For the nearby coast: sea temperatures along the northeastern shore reach around 25°C in July and around 26°C in August, according to T3-Aggregator climate data. The Artà Local Guide covers the history and sights of the town in depth. For a broader climatic overview of the whole island, see Mallorca Climate Chart.
Note on data sources: Artà has no dedicated AEMET climate normal station. Climate figures are drawn from Capdepera (T3-Aggregator, approx. 10 km away). Artà's elevation (123 m above sea level) may produce slightly cooler readings compared to Capdepera; this difference is not separately quantified here. All figures are indicative.
