Climate at Cala Gat — Northeast Coast, Wind-Exposed Bay
Cala Gat sits at the eastern edge of Cala Ratjada and opens toward the northeast — facing the open Mediterranean. This orientation is the defining climate feature of the small bay: it is more exposed to wind than the sheltered harbor area of Cala Ratjada, and the Embat, the afternoon northeasterly breeze, hits the shore here directly.
In climate terms, Cala Gat shares the profile of the northeast coast. Reference data comes from T3-Aggregator climate figures for Capdepera (~2 km away): around 586 mm of annual rainfall — significantly more than the 449 mm recorded in Palma according to AEMET. The reason lies in the proximity to the open sea and the modest sheltering effect of the Tramuntana, which in autumn draws moisture from northeasterly weather patterns. November is the wettest month at around 104 mm.
Summers are dry and warm. In July, T3-Aggregator climate data show only around 8 mm of rain; daytime highs reach around 29°C, with a daily average of around 25°C. The bay's northeast-facing orientation means the Embat frequently takes the edge off temperatures right on the beach — an advantage for beachgoers that doesn't show up in weather data but is very much felt in person.
Sea temperatures follow the Balearic pattern: around 25°C in July and around 26°C in August according to T3-Aggregator climate data. In October, the water is still around 23°C.
Winters are mild, with a daily average of around 11°C in January. Frost is virtually unheard of on the coast. For a concise overview of the climate across the entire northeast coastal region, see Mallorca Climate Chart.
Note on data sources: Cala Gat has no dedicated AEMET climate normal station. Climate values are derived from Capdepera (T3-Aggregator). All figures are approximate.
