Climate in Galatzó — Calvià, Puig de Galatzó, and Mediterranean Coastal Climate
Galatzó is a residential settlement in the municipality of Calvià, situated at around 29 meters above sea level and named after the nearby peak Puig de Galatzó (1,026 m). Its location in the southwest of Mallorca, between the Calvià coastline and the southern slopes of the Tramuntana, produces a mild, sun-rich climate similar to that of Palma.
For precipitation, AEMET B228 Palma serves as the nearest available reference: 449 mm of annual rainfall (1981–2010). November is the wettest month, with around 79 mm; July brings only about 7 mm. These figures serve as a general benchmark for the entire southwest area of Calvià.
Summers are warm and sunny. July daytime highs reach around 30°C, with a daily average of roughly 26°C. The nearby Calvià coast — Santa Ponça is about 4 km away — occasionally brings a sea breeze in summer that takes the edge off the heat. The proximity to the southwestern slopes of the Tramuntana means that certain weather patterns can produce foehn effects (dry, warm downslope winds from the mountains) — not statistically quantifiable, but well known in the region.
Winters in Galatzó are mild and typical of the southwest coast. The January daily average sits at around 12°C. The Puig de Galatzó provides partial shelter from northerly winds, which can keep winter temperatures slightly above the island average.
Spring and autumn are the ideal seasons for hiking up Puig de Galatzó and through the southern side of the Tramuntana. Mallorca Climate Chart offers a regional climate overview.
Note on data sources: Galatzó has no dedicated weather station. Values are based on AEMET B228 Palma (1981–2010) and T3-Aggregator data as reference figures.
