Petra Weather

Today's weather in Petra
Currently the weather in Petra is paying off: the temperature in Petra is 27.4°C (feels like 27°C), the sky is sunny and a light breeze at 4 km/h makes it pleasant. Chance of precipitation only 1%, highs climb to around 33.9°C today, and overnight temperatures hardly fall below 23.9°C.
Throughout the day it stays stable and dry, with sunshine dominating and providing warm but not oppressive conditions. It will get a bit hotter in places during the afternoon — shade and a break now and then are welcome. The light wind brings little cooling, so longer stays outdoors should be planned accordingly. All in all, a calm, sunny day in Petra today.
Perfect for a village stroll
With this weather a relaxed walk through the traditional village is ideal: Junípero Serra's birthplace and the Junípero Serra Museum offer cultural insights at a leisurely pace. Alternatively, a bike ride along the hilly paths around the east-central area is worthwhile; don’t forget water and breaks. Local tip: Serra later founded the missions of San Francisco and Los Angeles — a nice bit of context for the visit.
Outlook: Tomorrow still sunny with about 32.8°C.

Climate in Petra — Inland Climate in the Eastern Plà
Petra is a small inland town in the eastern Plà de Mallorca, best known as the birthplace of the missionary Junípero Serra. Its position at 111 meters above sea level on the island's eastern plain defines its character: a Mediterranean inland climate, marked by hot, dry summers and mild, occasionally rainy winters.
In summer, the inland climate shows its typical face: July daytime highs reach around 31°C according to Aggregator climate data. Because Petra sits away from the coastline, there is no cooling effect from sea breezes. July is the driest month, averaging around 9 mm of precipitation. Annual rainfall is estimated at around 460 mm — slightly above the AEMET figure for Palma (449 mm), possibly favored by southeasterly wind patterns that carry moisture from the Mediterranean into the eastern interior. November is the wettest month, with around 80 mm.
Winters are mild. The average daily temperature in January sits at around 11°C. Frost is rare but possible in the open flatlands when strong cold air incursions reach the island. The golden-brown marès stone houses that define the townscape retain heat well — a building style well suited to the inland climate with its summer heat and cool winters.
For those using Petra as a base for exploring eastern Mallorca — up to the Puig de Bonany, across to nearby Ariany, or toward Manacor — May and October offer the most pleasant conditions. More on Mallorca's weather patterns: Mallorca Climate Chart.
Note on data sources: Petra has no dedicated AEMET climate normal station. Climate values are drawn from T3-Aggregator sources for the Plà de Mallorca. AEMET reference: B228 Palma (1981–2010, 449 mm). Figures are approximate.
