Sa Pobla: 36-metre bridge keeps walkers off road
Walkers and cyclists can cross the Sant Miquel stream between Sa Pobla and Crestatx without using the road after the Consell de Mallorca installed a 36-metre wooden footbridge. The bridge is 2.5 metres wide. It was put in place on Monday, 7 September.
The crossing lets people avoid the stretch at the roundabout above the motorway, where traffic is directed towards Sa Pobla, Pollença and Alcúdia.
Link over motorway and stream
The bridge forms part of a 2.5-kilometre civic road scheme that crosses both the motorway and the Sant Miquel stream. The scheme also includes a new roundabout linking Sa Pobla with the residential areas of Crestatx, S'Obac and Son Toni.
The Consell de Mallorca says the work is intended to support sustainable travel. Plans include reusing existing materials and applying energy-efficiency criteria.
Road upgrades still planned
The project will improve the road surface and add new drainage systems and LED lighting. Mixed steel-and-wood safety barriers and adapted signs are also planned.
The work has €30 million in funding from island funds, under an agreement between the Consell de Mallorca and the Balearic Government.
