Mallorca kidnapping trial: prosecutors seek 12 years

A man walked into a bank branch on Mallorca and asked an employee to call police after prosecutors say two men held him, hit him and robbed him. The First Section of the Balearic Islands Provincial Court will hear the case on Wednesday at 10.00. Prosecutors are seeking a combined 12 years in prison and 980 euros in payments.

The alleged attack happened in the early hours of 4 July 2022. Prosecutors say the man was drinking at a hostal when the two defendants approached him. They allegedly took advantage of him being alone and drunk, forced him into a vehicle and drove him to a home.

There, the prosecution says, they became aggressive and took his mobile phone, valued at 150 euros, a 20-euro waist bag and 60 euros in cash. They then allegedly moved him to another home, where they struck him several times in the face and demanded more money.

After several hours, the men allegedly demanded 2,000 euros and drove him to the bank so he could withdraw it. The man went inside alone and raised the alarm with a member of staff.

The defendants had left by the time officers arrived, prosecutors say. Police later found and arrested them. They face allegations of unlawful detention, robbery and assault.
