Climate in Canyamel Coves — on the east coast, at sea level
Canyamel Coves is the small settlement near the Caves of Artà (Coves d'Artà), at the northern end of the Cala de Canyamel. The location is unusual: right at sea level, nestled in a wooded coastal gorge. The climate is shaped by the east coast and the absence of any mountain barrier.
Based on proxy data from the Son Servera region (approx. 15 km to the southwest), annual precipitation averages around 587 mm — noticeably above the AEMET Palma figure of 449 mm. November is the wettest month at around 104 mm — typical for the east coast, where autumn low-pressure systems hit the open shoreline directly. July, by contrast, sees only around 8 mm.
Summers in Canyamel Coves are warm but somewhat more moderate than in the interior: daily highs in July reach around 29°C, with a daily average of around 25°C. The bay is sheltered — less wind than at more exposed stretches of coast to the north or south. In high summer it is calm and pleasant here.
Sea temperature is especially relevant for this beach destination. Along the east coast, the water sits at around 25°C in July and around 26°C in August. The sheltered bay, bounded to the north by the cliffs of the Coves d'Artà, can warm up slightly more than open coastal sections in summer due to its shallow setting. In October, around 23°C can be expected.
Winters are mild — particularly so at sea level: the daily average in January is around 12°C. The proximity to the water means frost nights are virtually unheard of.
The Climate Chart Mallorca provides a broader overview of the east coast climate. Sea temperatures across the island are compared in Water Temperature Mallorca.
Note on data sources: Canyamel Coves has no dedicated climate station. Values are based on proxy data from Son Servera (~15 km, T3-Aggregator). The AEMET B228 station (1981–2010) was used for comparisons with Palma.
