Climate in Es Capdellà — a quiet valley at the foot of Galatzó
Es Capdellà is a small village nestled in a peaceful valley hollow at the base of Puig de Galatzó, Mallorca's second-highest peak at 1,026 m. This position — low-lying, ringed by hills, with the mountain at its back — defines the village's climate. The Mediterranean seasonal pattern of the Calvià zone applies here as elsewhere, but Galatzó shapes the local wind patterns and rainfall in its own way.
In the Calvià area, annual precipitation comes to around 550 mm according to aggregator climate data — somewhat more than the 449 mm AEMET records for station B228 Palma Hafen. For Es Capdellà itself, values may well be higher still given its valley position and westerly exposure, but no measurement data exist for the site. November is the wettest month (around 89 mm according to Calvià climate data), July the driest (around 8 mm).
Summer in Es Capdellà feels different from the coast: the village sits sheltered in its valley hollow, surrounded by trees. Daily highs for the Calvià region reach around 29°C in August according to climate data, but the valley topography and tree cover mean the heat feels less intense than in open settlements. At the same time, the cooling sea breeze is absent — calm high-pressure spells in midsummer can make the valley hollow particularly warm and still.
Winters are mild, with January daily mean temperatures for the Calvià region around 11°C. The enclosed nature of the valley can lead to slightly lower overnight temperatures than open coastal locations on clear, calm nights. Frost is possible but uncommon.
For a useful climate comparison, see Santa Ponsa Weather and Calvià Weather.
Note on data sources: Es Capdellà has no AEMET climate-normal station of its own. Monthly climate values are drawn from aggregator climate data for Calvià (T3 source). The AEMET annual figure refers to station B228 Palma Hafen (T1, 1981–2010) as a reference point. Valley-hollow effects are described qualitatively and are not supported by station-specific measurement data for this location.
