Climate in Randa — in the shadow of Puig de Randa
Randa sits at 149 meters above sea level, at the foot of Puig de Randa — the most striking isolated hill on the Mallorcan plain, rising to 543 meters. Its position is not without meteorological significance: under certain weather patterns, the mountain acts as an orographic barrier where clouds are forced upward and release somewhat more precipitation than on the open plain surrounding it. This explains why climate estimates place Randa's annual rainfall at around 480 mm — slightly above the AEMET figure for Palma (449 mm). November is the wettest month at around 80 mm; July averages just around 9 mm.
At 149 meters, temperatures are marginally more moderate than on the flat Plà. T3-Aggregator climate data puts average daily highs in July at around 30°C, with a daily mean of around 25°C. In winter, the January daily mean drops to around 10°C. The village itself is well sheltered from direct northerly winds by the bulk of Puig de Randa — a characteristic that makes it feel noticeably calmer on winter days than the open plain.
Summer, as throughout the island's interior, is dry and warm. Anyone planning the ascent to the monastery of Santuari de Cura, which crowns the summit of Puig de Randa, should keep in mind that temperatures at the top are a few degrees cooler than in the village — making the trip more comfortable in midsummer than you might expect.
In autumn and winter, brief, intense showers are possible. Puig de Randa occasionally snags passing clouds, which then unload their moisture. It's nothing like the large-scale orographic effect of the Tramuntana, but the local micro-dynamics are real.

Note on data sources: Randa has no dedicated AEMET climatological station. Climate values are drawn from T3-Aggregator sources for the Plà de Mallorca with altitude correction. AEMET reference: B228 Palma 1981–2010. All figures are indicative.
