Mallorca celebrates Alzamora’s National Poetry Prize

Writer Sebastià Alzamora has won the National Poetry Prize. On Tuesday in Palma, Mallorca, Govern president Marga Prohens congratulated him online, calling the award recognition of both his work and a long career devoted to literature and creative writing.

Congress president Francina Armengol described the prize as an immense honour for a literary career that has brought readers words, memory and beauty for decades. She said the award was a source of pride for Mallorca and the Catalan language.

Armengol also highlighted Alzamora’s Sala Augusta seguit de llengua materna, saying it shows the strength of his poetry by facing shared history while speaking with intimacy and tenderness.
