20 Balearic music students head to Neorama in Granada

Twenty music students from the Balearic Islands will join the Neorama festival in Granada from 3 to 5 September. They will be accompanied by Pitxorines, the group chosen to represent the islands, which has two Granada performances scheduled.

The delegation brings together 16 students from the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Baleares and four from the Conservatorio Profesional de Música y Danza. Neorama will draw 350 young artists from across Spain for more than 40 concerts and training activities.

Music industry issues on the programme

The festival is billed by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport as the first major Spain-wide event focused entirely on emerging musical talent and training new generations of artists.

Its programme covers innovation, sustainability, the gender gap and social mediation. It will also examine how artificial intelligence affects music-making.

Jaume Bauzà, the Balearic minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport, met student representatives and members of Pitxorines on Monday alongside Antoni Planas, academic director of Higher Artistic Education in the Balearic Islands, and Culture director-general Llorenç Perelló. The Balearic Government says the trip is intended to help young local creators build contacts, enter new markets and strengthen their professional prospects.

Pitxorines set for two Granada shows

Pitxorines was picked through an open call by the Institut d'Estudis Baleàrics, working with Juventudes Musicales de España. The project has €5,000 for fees and travel.

The group will play at Plaza de los Aljibes in Granada's Alhambra on Friday 4 September, then at Plaza de las Pasiegas on Saturday 5 September.
