300 cultural events open up on Mallorca for vulnerable groups

More than 300 cultural activities are set to reach people in vulnerable situations across Mallorca and Menorca this autumn and winter. Apropa Cultura Balears unveiled its 2026-27 programme in Palma, Mallorca, on Tuesday, 22 September. It includes concerts, theatre, dance, cinema, literature, museum visits and exhibitions.

The scheme works through social and health centres and services supporting people with disabilities, mental health conditions or chronic illnesses. Older people, migrants and refugees are also among those it aims to include.

Seven new cultural partners

Seven organisers have joined the network for the new season: Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest, Can Prunera, Cranc Festival, Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival, Festival de Literatura Expandida de Magaluf, Gremi de Llibreters de Mallorca and Teatre i Auditori de Manacor.

Their arrival broadens the range of art forms and formats available to affiliated centres and services. Around 250 people attended the launch at the Pati de les Dones in Palma’s La Misericòrdia Cultural Centre, where participants stressed the value of having a place to speak face to face.

Network has grown since 2021

Apropa Cultura arrived in the Balearic Islands in 2021 to make cultural participation easier for people in vulnerable situations. It now brings together 57 cultural organisers and 343 centres and services from social and health organisations on Mallorca and Menorca.

Over the past five years, the network has offered around 63,000 cultural experiences. Consell de Mallorca vice-president Antònia Roca said the island authority intends to remain part of the initiative.
